Odd, not Irrational

I am a math student in my senior year of college, that will be working as a software developer after school is over. I get through my days with music, musings, and memorizing the lines of cute boys.

"Not much of a man, are you?"

My partner’s father, a local sheriff, berated me at his dinner table for not knowing enough about vehicle maintenance. My lack of interest in cars does not define my identity. Made me feel alienated, marginalized, and intimidated. (via microaggressions)

My father tried to get me interested in cars on many occasions. He’s big into fixing his own car and always wanted me to help out. When I did, I always disliked the experience. The sweat. The grease. The perilous contraption. The late nights of trying to figure what was wrong and refusing to go to a shop if it could be helped.

We really aren’t so different, we just apply these traits to different pursuits. This is my attitude towards computer problems, and I’ve spent many-an-hour trying to figure out why my computer sound refused to work or why WINE refuses to run whatever latest distraction I’ve become intrigued by.

I think it’s more a generational difference. Instead of cars, my peers value computers and build them, diagnose them, and see no real reason to goto a professional when the solution is really just a google and a sleepless night away.
